The life of a Car Chief

My name is Phil Moran, I'm from Colchester Ct., now living in High Point N.C. I am currently the car chief on the Catapillar #22 Toyota Camary driven by Dave Blaney. My background comes from being a crew chief for northeast Nascar Modifieds for the last 15 years. Then getting a phone call from a good friend of mine at BDR (Tommy Baldwin)I decided to make the move south. First starting as chassis shop foreman, I got to learn the insides of a Sprint Cup car. Tommy then decided to move me up to car chief this winter. As car chief my shop duties include setting up the car and making sure everything is in order for the race that week. Having a great group of guys in the shop helps make my job enjoyable. At the race track I take care of setting up our garage stall for the weekend, getting the car through Nascar Inspection and getting the car ready for our practice. We will do several runs to see how we stack up against the other guy's and make adjustments to make our car even better. After practice we have to get ready for qualifing, once again rolling through inspection. On race day my job is to make sure that everybody has done their checklist's on the car to make sure that every nut & bolt has been looked at. Then it's time to go racing, and if everybody has done their best we'll have a good day!   Then it's back to the shop and do it all over again!
