Infineon Raceway Notes
  • Sonoma’s Ride…The No. 22 Bill Davis Racing team plans to utilize chassis No. 21 for the Toyota Save Mart 350k this weekend at Infineon Raceway.  It will be the first time this season this car has been raced, but the team tested it at Virginia International Raceway several weeks ago.
  • Blaney’s Career Stats…Dave Blaney will make his 283rd career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start when the green flag waves for the first road course event of the season Sunday afternoon.  He made his first career Cup Series start in October 1992 at [Rockingham] North Carolina Speedway and finished 29th for his first Cup Series start at Infineon in 2000.  Like this weekend, Blaney was aboard a Bill Davis Racing-owned machine.
  • Blaney at Infineon…Blaney has made seven Cup Series starts at 1.99-mile road course during his career.  The veteran driver has started as high as 15th (2003) and has finished as high as 19th (2005).  Blaney has scored two top-20 finishes at the Sonoma, Calif., track in his Cup Series career.
  • BDR at Infineon…Competitors driving Bill Davis Racing-owned cars have been racing at Infineon Raceway since 1993 and have made 20 starts.  BDR drivers have two top-10 finishes at the track.
  • Dirt Track Days…Blaney, the 1995 World of Outlaws Champion, is scheduled to participate in a dirt track race at Antioch Speedway at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds Saturday evening.  Antioch Speedway is a quarter-mile banked clay oval located approximately 45 miles from Infineon Raceway.  Blaney is spending this Tuesday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, racing 360 Sprint cars with Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne in the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 360 Challenge.  The event, which took place at the track he co-owns, is the first of a three-race challenge.  Additional races will take place on July 8 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and Aug. 19 at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
  • Speaking of Extracurricular Activities…Tom Hubert, rear tire changer on the No. 22 Camry, will once again compete in the NASCAR Camping World Series West Bennett Lane Winery 200 presented by Supercuts on Saturday afternoon.
  • Moving on Up…The Caterpillar Racing team has made its way up to the 29th position in the owners’ point standings.  The team stood 39th following the race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
  • Bring Your Sharpie…Look for Blaney to stop by the Caterpillar/Toyota Racing merchandise hauler to sign autographs this weekend.  Please check with the trailer for exact times.
  • Toyota Save Mart 350 Broadcast Schedule…Qualifying for the event is scheduled to start at 4:05 p.m. ET Friday, June 20.  The 110-lap event is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. ET Sunday, June 22, and will broadcast LIVE on TNT (TV), MRN (radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio.

Blaney’s Thoughts on Infineon Raceway…

“Your first goal at any road course is to avoid getting yourself into trouble.  Obviously, that’s the goal anywhere, but there just seems to be a lot more opportunities for problems at road courses.  Staying on the track is key because getting stuck somewhere and finding yourself in the back of the pack is a real problem at these types of places where there are only a couple of real places to pass.  Hopefully we’ll get in a good qualifying lap and start somewhere near the front.

“The past couple of years at Infineon Raceway haven’t been all that kind to us, so hopefully we can get that turned around this weekend.  We had a rough time last week in Michigan and lost some of our padding in regards to keeping the teams behind us in points safely behind us, and we can’t afford to have another finish like that.  We’ve worked really hard and made up a lot of ground in the past month or two, so we’re looking forward to keeping that momentum up this weekend.”
